A Helping Hand Digest #22

KHERSON

Last week in Kherson we accomplished a lot of things, such as refueling 14 generators, feeding a dog for a week, disinfecting 5 rooms, including 3 large basements, disinfecting 12 rooms, including 2 large basements, disinfecting 5 rooms, including 4 large basements, taking an injured woman to the hospital, organizing fun water fights for children (for 2 days), installing 1 generator, and helping to extinguish a fire in a house caused by a missile before the arrival of the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine.

An incredible heat wave has covered Ukraine this week. And in the south, it feels just like the Sahara Desert. While treating one of the basements for pests, I longed to get out, take off my protective suit, and dive into some cold river. But all water bodies in Kherson are a red zone now and a great danger. The occupiers do not spare anyone. There have already been cases of military ordnance being dropped on people who came for a swim in the river. Our volunteer Sashko recalled his childhood when he together and his friends spent his whole summer days on the beaches. He felt sorry for the children of the Kherson region who were deprived of this joy. So our Step with Hope Team and I started thinking of things we could do for our Ukrainian children left in Kherson. A brilliant idea came to us:

“What if we organized water fights in the yard?” We bought splash pads, invited the kids, and organized a totally unforgettable day where the kids had a lot of fun. It was an incredible experience so that in a way, the kids were able to get refreshed as if they swam in a river. Many happy parents came up to us with words of thanks. In turn, we announced another meeting like that. Until the end of the summer, we would really like to meet once a week on a regular basis.

AGROPROJECT

We would like to thank all those following the development and implementation of the project of providing seeds and planting materials to the people. It is the middle of summer and we keep getting thankful feedback along with the real-life photos of the harvest!

DONETSK REGION

TOVSTE VILLAGE

This week our volunteers traveled to the Donbas to the village of Tovste. It is extremely hot there now, both literally and figuratively. In addition to the fact that for the past two weeks, the thermometer has been rising to +40 in the shade, there have been air raids for two weeks in a row.

But the people were eagerly looking forward to our help and were very grateful for the humanitarian kits they received

KOSTIANTYNIVKA, DRUZHKIVKA

In Kostiantynivka, the distribution of eyeglasses was held in full swing. In return, we received lots of gratitude.

“Good afternoon! My name is Olga. I am a resident of Kostiantynivka. Please accept my gratitude for your help in selecting eyeglasses. Your team helped me choose just the right ones. Thank you for your attentiveness, care, and help to us, the people of the frontline zone.”

In Druzhkivka, this week we were able to help people by providing them with eyeglasses, shower gels, and clothes.

“Dear team of the Foundation!
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your help with clothes and men’s suits. Thank you for your care and willingness to help!
Sincerely, Vasyl (Druzhkivka)”

KRAMATORSK, DOBROPILLIA

A trip was made to the cities of the Donetsk region, namely Kramatorsk and Dobropillia, to bring humanitarian aid.

What we noticed there is that currently, the people are mostly in need of not so much food as real physical assistance. The people who stayed there are ones in the 60+ age category. Some of them, due to their physical condition, can no longer even clean up their apartments. Social workers cannot cope with this. Some need medication, and others need simple devices, like blood pressure monitors. Those pensioners can’t afford that at the moment. So we decided to help as much as we can. On this trip, we visited two people, tidied up their rooms, and brought them walkers. The people were very grateful. Besides that, we handed them out food packages.

KHARKIV REGION

ZNAMIANKA

“My name is Svetlana Mirova, 47 years old. I have five children. Life is extremely hard at these times. We have money issues and food supply problems. Many thanks to the Foundation for helping people, for the loaves of bread. I wish you peace and health!”

CHUGUEV and KOCHETOK VILLAGE

“I am Inna Pushkarova, a single pensioner born in 1951. I live on a scanty pension, which is very difficult now. I have no family or friends, and I rely solely on volunteers. Thank you for being there for us! Thank you for what you do for us! God bless you and give you a peaceful sky above your heads.”

KHARKIV, KAMIANA YARUGA, MALA DANYLIVKA

In Kharkiv, an interesting children’s lesson was held and humanitarian aid was delivered. We also distributed diapers for adults. People were very grateful for the help.

On Saturday, bread was distributed with the support of Ukraine TrustChain. We also cleaned up the lawn and tried to save the flowers from the heat. It was also a restless day as there was a moment when all children and adults had to lie down on the floor because everyone could hear the whistle of a missile. Afterward, psychological assistance was provided to the children and their parents. No one was hurt.

When the electrical power goes out, people have no water or gas. Our team provides an opportunity to recharge their gadgets and flashlights. We have also made it possible for people to come to our point, take a shower, do their laundry, etc.

DNIPROPETROVS’K REGION

NIKOPOL

We continued our usual work in Nikopol and the district using all the opportunities available to us. We don’t always succeed the way we would like to. All kinds of problems happen occasionally because we deal with people and sometimes we may not meet each other’s expectations. But we are trying to learn and gain wisdom.

This week’s agenda was supplemented by vehicle repairs, which naturaly take a lot of time, nerves, and energy.

This week we visited another settlement on our way. We organized an ophthalmologist’s appointment for 50 internally displaced people living in Apostolove.

During the week, we distributed 100 pairs of eyeglasses, 20 food packages, and 1000 liters of drinking water. About 150 families received assistance.

NOVOMOSKOVSK, MAGDALYNIVKA

The trips were carried out to receive, transport and distribute humanitarian aid in the form of 80 food packages (600 kg), canned food and bread (300 kg), 2nd category clothing and eyeglasses.

KRYVYI RIH

In Kryvyi Rih district, 100 families received humanitarian aid this week and were sincerely grateful for it.

KAMIANSKE

As always, we worked in many areas, but the most important event was the closure of the “Journey to Friendlyland” summer camp.  The kids tasted the cake they had made the day before and received delicious gifts. Everyone had a lot of fun during the “trip” and had the blues having to say goodbye.
