A Helping Hand Digest #26

KHERSON

Over the past week, Kherson has been subjected to increased shelling. Three districts have been left completely without electricity. Repair services cannot provide specific information on when the power grids will be restored, and due to the heightened density of fire from Russian troops, there is no possibility of sending a repair team to those areas of Kherson. However, the team of the EO “IBF “Step with Hope”  in Kherson has the opportunity to install generators and provide fuel for them to help people. We continue to bring light to people this week. This week there were many disinfections carried out. One of the locations was a large building with four big entrances. There were cockroaches. First, we mixed the solution and prepared it. Then, we climbed into the attic to exterminate all the cockroaches. All the residents were very grateful for the assistance provided. During conversations, it was revealed that they also had many mice in their basement. So, the scope of work increased. The number of mice and rats in Kherson is off the charts. And the problem is that people live in these premises. Mice are causing significant issues for them.

DONETSK REGION

POKROVSK

We are evacuating people from Pokrovsk. We evacuated the mother of one of our volunteers and the grandmother of two of our volunteers. They came under fire, and the bus broke down 200 km from the destination. Thank God everything went well. Additionally, shelters in Synelnykivskyi and Novomoskovskyi districts, where people from Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region are being brought en masse, reached out to us for help. They are requesting food, hygiene products, baby food, and diapers. We are grateful to our partners Ukraine TrustChain for their assistance.

A quick liberation of our native land from the hated aggressor, the return of our defenders home. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!”

KHARKIV, KAMYANA YARUGA, MALA DANYLIVKA

As you already know, in Kharkiv, the team of volunteers from the EO “IBF “Step with Hope”  is actively working with teenagers and youth. On Friday, we held a meeting called ‘Interesting Facts About the Skunk’ for teenagers and children. We are also preparing for the start of the school year. On Sunday, a master class titled ‘Bread on the Fire’ was organized, where dough was kneaded, and we observed the bread-making process. We also continue to provide people with the opportunity to charge their gadgets and flashlights, take showers, do laundry, and more.

DNIPROPETROVSK REGION

NIKOPOL, VILLAGE OF SHEVCHENKOVE

This week, we made another trip to a remote village in our Nikopol district. Another settlement was on our route, the village of Shevchenkove. The road to it tested our nerves and determination. This is one of those rare cases where the road took more time than serving 75 people. Well, we’ll start raising funds for a tractor because, otherwise, it’s impossible to pass, especially in the cold season. But the goal was achieved, and that’s the main thing. Together with the village head, we visited the most socially vulnerable residents of this village. Adeda, a local elder, met us joyfully at her gate. Despite her old age, she has read through the entire local library. With a curious mind, she is as happy as a child to receive food.

Asya Opanasivna, a pensioner and mother of ten children, was brought to the reception by her neighbors; she walks poorly. Having many children, she misses her only son, who went to the front; she is waiting for him. The mother does not know that her son is no longer alive. With eyes full of hope, she gazes down the road, hoping to see the familiar silhouette that, unfortunately, will never appear on the horizon. In addition to our work in the villages, we also work in our aid center. We regularly distribute drinking water to those under our care. Thanks to our partners Restoring Vision and Ukraine TrustChain, during the week, we distributed 2,000 liters of drinking water, 130 pairs of glasses, 20 packs of sweets, and 30 food packages.

NOVOMOSKOVSK, MAGDALYNIVKA

This week, trips were made to receive, transport, and distribute humanitarian aid in the form of food packages, totaling 80 packages (1,600 kg). Canned goods, cereals, other items, and second-category clothing were included. Glasses were also distributed. For collective housing for displaced persons, the volunteer center in the village of Cherkaska, and displaced persons in the village of Magdalynivka and the surrounding area, this was all organized thanks to our partners Restoring Vision, Ukraine TrustChain, and MCC.

KRYVYI RIH

This week, trips were made within Kryvyi Rih to provide humanitarian aid and to the Kryvyi Rih district, as well as trips to participate in training sessions for the team from the Kryvyi Rih Volunteer Center. The total weight of the aid transported amounted to about 1,800 kg. We continued to visit the families of our heroes who died while performing tasks at the front.

KAMIANSKE

In the city of Kamianske, there was a lot of work, but the aid center worked like clockwork. We conducted the psycho-social program “Healing Wounds of the Soul”, children’s meetings, and a meeting of the teenage group where we explored what a paradigm is. The massage room was also actively working, where vulnerable categories of citizens could receive massage services. And, of course, we organized charity lunches and provided laundry services.

DNIPRO

At the beginning of August, a children’s summer school in the village of Slobozhanske was postponed to the beginning of August. The children really enjoyed the gifts from the EO “IBF “Step with Hope”. Parents and children are grateful for the timely support from the foundation and sponsors! This week, professional development for specialists involved in the psycho-social assistance direction of the EO “IBF “Step with Hope” was also organized. This included psychologists, trainers, coaches, and chaplains who support people, help them heal, and find resources to restore strength and meaning in life. The training sessions and seminars organized for them were successful, with trainers learning a lot of new information, making the psycho-social assistance direction of the EO “IBF “Step with Hope” even stronger.
